Loro Piana Royal Lightness®

Achieving new heights in delicacy, Loro Piana Royal Lightness® is realised as both a yarn, fusing silk and Merino wool, and a fabric, a blend of silk and cashmere. It was developed in-house at the Maison’s state-of-the-art facilities in Roccapietra and Quarona, Italy, by a dedicated team and required two years of extensive research.

Loro Piana Royal Lightness® yarn is a blend of precious silk and fine Merino wool, sourced from Australia and New Zealand. The Merino wool is blended with Mulberry silk, also known as Royal Silk, which is the finest silk in the world. It is sealed with a special finish for added delicacy and exclusive luminosity. This transformation involves various steps by the Maison’s experts, starting with combing and spinning the precious raw materials, then twisting two strands of yarn together in a precisely measured manner. This enhances the innate qualities of each fibre and creates an ultra-fine thread with a signature lightness and subtle reflection. It is later transformed into ethereal knitwear through a painstaking process guided by distinctive textile prowess.

Loro Piana Royal Lightness® fabric is the result of an exceptional union of precious Mulberry Silk and cashmere, expertly woven into the fabric according to a meticulous process that only a handful of experts in Italy can offer. During the final stages, the woven fabric is carefully tumbled for a fluffy, raised pile that lends a signature Loro Piana touch.

Finally, the material is brushed, raised, and shaved to add depth and direction, achieving a unique light-reflecting quality. Next, the undergo the most intricate and time-consuming part of the fabrication: fell stitching. This is a rare ancient artisanal technique performed entirely by hand, with thread and needle, to ensure a smooth, immaculate finish on both the outer and inner sides of the garment.
